A month in Thailand is long enough for small package differences to become operational problems. A 15-day allowance ends halfway through the stay. A speed-limited plan may remain connected but take hours to upload a file. A top-up can add credit without necessarily buying the data package you thought it did.
The right comparison is therefore the complete month: registration, usable speed, data, expiry, renewal and a backup for important work.
Begin with the heaviest working day
Estimate the work that will actually use mobile data. If a fixed connection handles most sessions, the mobile package may be a travel-and-backup service. If the laptop will tether every day, include meetings, file transfers and the background traffic you permit.
Do not average away the busiest day. A week of light messaging does not compensate operationally for a restricted upload on the afternoon a client needs a large file. The package must fit both the month's total and the peak task.
For a hypothetical 30-day stay, write down the essential calls and known uploads first. Add routine usage and a reserve after that. This gives the price comparison a defined job.
AIS provides a concrete local starting point
AIS's tourist page displayed a 30-day offer at THB 1,199, described as unlimited data at maximum speed on 5G/4G, along with specified calling benefits. Treat that as the provider's advertised package description, not a measured speed or a promise of unrestricted use under every condition. Confirm the exact checkout terms, tax treatment and tethering suitability. AIS tourist plans
The same page contains multiple products and add-ons with different conditions. Do not attach a restriction from one lower-priced add-on to every offer, or assume the most generous headline applies to every product on the page.
The 30-day duration makes this a candidate for a month-long comparison. It does not make it an automatic winner over a smaller package for someone who only needs occasional mobile backup.
The same AIS page displayed a 15-day maximum-speed offer at THB 699. Two purchases at that displayed price total THB 1,398, which is THB 199 more than the displayed 30-day offer. This arithmetic favors investigating the full-duration product for a thirty-day stay, provided checkout confirms comparable service and eligibility. It does not establish that repeated fifteen-day activation is seamless or that either plan suits every workload. AIS duration and price options
Registration belongs in the arrival plan
Thai tourist SIM service involves registration. AIS asks users to register before use and describes additional identity reconfirmation for use beyond 60 days. dtac's official registration instructions tell visitors to bring their passport, SIM and packaging to the supported registration route. Use authorized channels and provide identity information only through the official process. Do not send passport images to an unverified messaging account because it claims to offer a discounted activation.
For a straightforward month, the main task is completing the initial process correctly. If plans extend, revisit the current operator instructions rather than assuming the same arrangement continues indefinitely.
Read the speed tier before the word “unlimited”
A package can offer unlimited data at a specified maximum rate, high-speed data followed by a lower rate, or another managed arrangement. Those designs feel different during work.
For scale, a hypothetical sustained 2 Mbps upload takes about one hour and seven minutes to send 1 GB in decimal units, before overhead. At 10 Mbps, the ideal time is about thirteen minutes. Neither figure predicts local network performance; they show why a fixed speed ceiling can matter even when the allowance never runs out.
dtac's prepaid page illustrates the need to inspect speed tiers and eligibility rather than treating all prepaid offers as the same product. Some displayed offers are add-ons or depend on a particular customer situation. dtac prepaid options
Ask specifically about hotspot use and the work pattern you intend. Permission to connect a laptop is not a promise that sustained business workloads have no restrictions.
Do not confuse credit with an active package
Prepaid accounts can distinguish money credited to the account from a purchased data entitlement. Confirm what your top-up actually does and what happens when the current package ends.
Record the package expiry and the route to renew it. If renewal is automatic, check the required balance and the renewal terms. If it is manual, plan the action before a critical workday rather than waiting for service to stop.
A useful habit is to check both data balance and expiry after any purchase. A successful payment confirmation proves payment; the service screen should establish what was activated.
Avoid copying old short codes from unofficial posts. Use the current operator app or official instructions for the selected offer.
Resolve contradictory package details before buying
dtac's prepaid page illustrates a more immediate comparison problem: one 30-day add-on advertises 2 Mbps while its accompanying note specifies a 1 Mbps maximum. Do not resolve conflicting wording by assuming the faster figure applies. Ask the operator to confirm the exact package, speed and eligibility before paying. dtac prepaid options
A search result or recently refreshed page can still contain older conditions. Save the offer attached to your purchase and check that the activated entitlement matches it.
For a comparison with AIS, obtain a clearly specified dtac/True offer for the same duration and workload. This guide does not declare a price winner from unmatched or contradictory information.
Compare a travel eSIM on the same basis
A pre-arranged travel eSIM may simplify arrival, particularly if you already know the provider's setup. Compare it with the local option using the same dates, allowance and service needs.
Include the cost of any necessary second package. Two 15-day packages may cover a thirty-day stay in principle, but check how activation and renewal work and whether the final day is covered. A calendar month can also be longer than thirty days.
If you need local voice service, verify it explicitly. A travel data package and a local voice-and-data package are not equivalent products, even if both display a similar gigabyte amount.

Recheck when you change working locations
A successful session in Bangkok does not establish the connection at a later working base. Test at the actual desk and at a representative time. Pay attention to upload stability and the required work applications, not only the network icon.
Keep an alternate route ready for important calls. If both mobile products use the same underlying network, they may share a failure. If the primary connection is fixed Wi-Fi, a tested mobile service can reduce that particular dependency.
Do not schedule an essential call around an untested transfer between locations. Mobile connectivity can make travel work possible without making every moving work session a sensible commitment.
Make the last week as deliberate as the first
Check remaining data, service validity and renewal access before the final week. Keep enough usable capacity for the tasks you cannot defer and avoid allowing optional transfers to consume it unnoticed.
For a worker relying mainly on a fixed connection, a smaller supporting plan may be proportionate. For a mobile-first working month, investigate a full-duration local offer such as the cited AIS package, verify its detailed suitability and maintain a second route.
The strongest plan is not simply “buy unlimited.” It is knowing the speed and service conditions, completing registration properly and understanding exactly what will happen when the allowance or period ends.
If the local offer and travel package seem hard to compare, start with local SIM versus travel eSIM to separate the subscription from its physical format. Use the month-long eSIM guide to check duration and allowance without confusing a short tourist promotion with a full working month.
Research note: official provider pages rechecked on 11 October 2026. THB prices are displayed offers, not checkout guarantees. No Thailand field tests; ambiguous offers excluded from price rankings and no exhaustive cheapest-network claim.
