Privacy notice
How this website handles information.

The website operator
Wilfred operates Route & Signal from Ontario, Canada and is responsible for this publication’s handling of personal information. Use the email address below for questions or privacy requests.
Reading and searching
Route & Signal has no reader accounts, comments, newsletter form or payment checkout. The site does not install advertising tags, analytics trackers, cookies or browser-storage identifiers. Fonts and editorial images are served with the site, rather than requested from third-party font or image services.
Search and browser history
Article search is performed in your browser using the site’s article index. The query is reflected in the page URL. Your browser can retain that URL; sharing, reloading or reopening it can send the query as part of the request to the hosting service. Do not enter personal, confidential or account-recovery information into search.
Hosting and connection data
When you visit a page, the hosting service receives basic connection information needed to deliver and protect it, such as your IP address, browser details, requested URL and time of access. Route & Signal does not use this information for its own visitor analytics and does not add analytics or advertising trackers to the site. The hosting service may keep operational and security records; this is not a claim that no server logs exist.
Messages you send
The reveal button displays our address and can open your email app; this website has no contact form or message database. If you email Wilfred, Google Gmail and Wilfred receive your address, message, attachments and related delivery information. Wilfred uses messages to answer questions, investigate corrections and handle privacy requests, not to add senders to a mailing list or sell their details. Routine messages are deleted within 12 months. Substantive correction records may be kept longer while needed to document an editorial decision, resolve a dispute or meet a legal requirement; they are reviewed and deleted when no longer needed. Please do not send passwords, recovery codes, financial details or identity documents.
External sites
Articles link to providers and other sources. Following a link takes you to a separate service with its own terms and privacy practices. The site uses a referrer policy that limits cross-origin referrer information to the origin; your browser and the destination may still exchange other connection information.
Advertising and future changes
This site currently runs no advertisements, affiliate tracking or analytics. If that changes, we will explain the actual providers, purposes and information involved here. Where a service requires your consent or an opt-out choice, we will provide the relevant controls before using it. Disclosure of a paid relationship explains who may benefit financially; it is separate from permission to use tracking technology. Merely reading a page is not blanket consent.
Your questions and requests
You may ask what correspondence Wilfred holds about you and request a correction or deletion where applicable. Give enough information to identify the message, but do not send identity documents unless a specific need is explained. Wilfred will assess the request under the law that applies and may need to verify that the request comes from the sender. If you remain dissatisfied after contacting Wilfred, you may seek guidance from the appropriate privacy authority. The Canadian federal complaint guide is linked at the end of this section; the responsible authority can vary by jurisdiction. Use the email address below for your request. See the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s complaint guidance.
Services outside Canada
The services used to host this site and receive email may process information outside Canada, where local laws and access by courts or public authorities may differ. Deleting a message from Wilfred’s mailbox does not delete a sender’s copy or immediately remove every provider backup. See Google’s privacy policy and Google’s retention explanation for the email service. These provider notices do not replace this publication’s responsibilities.
Changes to this notice
The revision date above identifies this notice’s latest update. We will revise it before introducing a new contact form, newsletter, advertising, analytics or another service that changes how reader information is handled.
